Barbara Teicher to Teach Information Professionals It’s HOW You Say It at DPI Conference

Barbara Teicher, president of Etc. Executive Training and Coaching in Kansas City, will bring her distinctive approach on business communication tactics to information professionals at a premier conference in Canada.

For Immediate Release – Kansas City, KS January 25, 2016: Information management is a rapidly-growing economic sector in the United States, Canada and around the world. Certain industry professionals, however, feel that the focus is too often placed on industry development rather than on helping information professionals with developing top-notch communication skills needed to expedite results. To remedy this situation, Developing Professionals in Informatics (DPI) asked Barbara Teicher of Kansas City to present her powerful presentation on building effective business communication skills to its membership at their upcoming program for Professional Development Week.

The annual professional development conference, “Open 24-7 – Today’s world of IM/IT” will be held May 25, 26 and 27 2016 at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Canada. Teicher will speak on Friday, May 27 on her signature topic of “It’s HOW You Say It® – Effective Business Communications Skills.” She brings over 25 years of experience in developing leadership qualities at government agencies, Fortune 50-500 companies, and associations to the DPI gathering. Attendees will hear and learn what she has often taught to senior officers for some of the most recognized brand names in the world – words are powerful tools that have an immediate impact on their target. Her take, though, is that the intended meaning can sometimes get lost in the translation due to a botched delivery mechanism as well as a set of sometimes hidden communication barriers. In her words, “It’s not just what you say, it’s HOW you say it®.”

“I am thrilled that DPI has included me in their roster of illustrious speakers,” commented Teicher. “More and more associations, businesses and trade groups are recognizing the importance of imparting effective communication and personal skills to their members and employees. My speech is designed to help information professionals learn to communicate more effectively from a professional perspective so they can better present their ideas, strengthen relationships and gain more recognition for the critical business contributions that they make.”

Teicher holds the prestigious CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation from the National Speakers Association and Global Speakers Federation. This distinction has been attained by less than 12% of their more than 5,000 members. She attributes her success in public speaking to the fact that she guides audiences through a lighthearted look at understanding why they face so many communication challenges. She combines common sense with a no-nonsense approach to help attendees learn how to change difficult situations into lasting solutions.

She has compiled her many lessons, strategy and 6-step principle into a book, “It’s HOW You Say It®: Effective Business Communication Skills” to provide the “how” and “why” of effective business communication, based on scientific research and practical applications learned from a lifetime of experience in helping clients realize that the “way” something is said can be more important and have greater impact than the words that are actually used. Some of the many companies and organizations she has worked with include Miller Coors Brewing Company, Hallmark Cards, Inc., Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Professional Women Controllers (PWC) (FAA).

The Association of Public Sector Information Professionals (DPI) is a volunteer not-for-profit Canadian organization which promotes the development of public sector professionals and the effective application of Information Management and Technology (IM/IT) within the public sector.
