Michael Pack was first on the scene of Ohio’s heroin epidemic to offer relief and support to local communities. He is a Certified Interventionist, a national circuit speaker, and has worked closely with Ohio Governor Michael DeWine, Celebrity Coach Dr. Cali Estes, and A&E interventionists Jeff Vanvonderon, Candy Finnigan, and Tim Ryan.

Workers left unemployed because of plant shutdowns or other scalebacks can quickly be in the driver’s seat and supporting their family again in as few as five weeks. Facing a re-education program at a college or university doesn’t offer that opportunity.

Doris Young started the Top 10 Trucking School in 2008 and graduates about 450 students annually. “My son Roger was talking to a graduate recently who had come to us homeless, and he was calling us three years later to thank us and let us know he now had $100,000 in his savings account,” Young recounted. “We’re so happy we can help people rebuild their lives and find success, we’re so blessed.”

Young’s other son Randy was, unfortunately, one of the tragic victims of the opioid epidemic. After he suffered an accident where he was hit by a car, he became addicted to the pain medication he was prescribed to help manage his injuries.

Ohio’s overdose deaths spiked in 2017, with the crisis showing no signs of abating. A recent Ohio settlement in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the pharmaceutical companies who manufacture opioids ratchets up the pressure on plaintiffs and drug companies to reach a global settlement.

A $260 million late-night settlement between four drug companies and two Ohio counties averted a trial over who is to blame for the opioid crisis, clearing the way for broader talks aimed at resolving thousands of opioid-addiction cases nationwide.

For now, the latest deal will direct $215 million to Ohio’s Cuyahoga and Summit counties from the country’s top drug distributors: McKesson Corp., Cardinal Health Inc. and AmerisourceBergen Corp. The counties—which encompass the Cleveland and Akron metro areas—will also receive $20 million in cash and the donation of $25 million in addiction-treatment drugs from Israel-based drug manufacturer Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.

“Throughout the epidemic, we had three of the top 10 to death overdose capitals. And even though we were the lowest funded state in the nation until this year, we are showing the world how to recover,” stated Mr. Pack. “Ohio’s highways and byways can lead you anywhere, and now we’re leading the nation in addiction recovery.”

He continued, “And I never imagined the top school in the USA would not only train me but provide a scholarship for me as well. I’m forever grateful.”

“We train veterans, unemployed, underemployed, and homeless to start a new career,” said Young. “But I’ve always got a soft spot for the addicts seeking help. It’s not their fault and they need someone to believe in them, and Great Lakes can provide that support.”

According to the Platinum Market Review published on June 18, 2018, platinum prices inched higher earlier last week bouncing off lows of just under $900 an ounce as gold prices were lifted following the US Federal Reserve’s announcement of a ¼-point rate increase.

The initial limited move in gold was likely the result of a “buy the news” response as the metal had languished in the days prior and on the realization that another rate hike may not be expected before the late-September or early November FOMC meetings.

But by the end of the week, the dollar had strengthened once again following the decision by the ECB to maintain its lower rate structure, forcing gold under $1,280 an ounce and platinum back below $890 an ounce. Regardless, platinum prices continue to struggle with the same near-$400 discount to gold and $110 discount to palladium.

Any measurable improvement in platinum prices in the short-term seems doubtful as the steady strength of the dollar will continue to limit gains in the precious metals. The Fed’s latest decision to increase interest rates and the ECB’s contrasting pronouncement to continue its more accommodative monetary stance should extend the dollar’s relative strength against the euro.

In addition, market reports such as last week’s news that German prosecutors were levying a $1.2 billion fine on Volkswagen AG for its involvement in “dieselgate” and the use of emission cheating software continue to sour investors on platinum. However, solid sales growth in the EU car market, which represents some 20% of total annual platinum consumption, should limit downside price risk in the metal.

Fielkow learned the secret to business success at an early age; working in his father’s store. He watched his father’s business grow in direct relation to the culture his dad created, Brian said, “I worked in his store and watched the focus he put on developing and empowering his employees. Police officer Nick Struck was able to console 2 year old Serena after a deadly car crash claimed the life of her father, but her future and that of her family is no lullaby. 

On Thursday June 18th, Stephanie Greer and her family were on their way from Illinois to Denver to start a new job and a new life, but in a second that was all thrown into turmoil when the rear tire of their SUV blew out causing their vehicle to flip multiple times off the road into a field. All but one person were ejected from the vehicle leaving mother with a broken pelvis, 4 year old Zayden in a coma/critical condition with massive head trauma, 3 month old Cruz with 2 broken legs and sisters 2 year old Serena and 3 year old Sophia, with bumps and bruises.

Family member Amanda Howe says, “As well as losing their father, they lost all of their belongings in the accident as it was all doused with gasoline. They had no life insurance. Stephanie is only 23 years old and now faces the burial of her husband, the unknown of her 4 year old son, Zayden, and his medical bills, being separated from her other 3 children as they stay with family back in Illinois so she can focus on Zayden. She also has no job as they were relocating and now no transportation or housing.”
