Flynn Roofing Co. of Quincy, Massachusetts, has received the most prestigious contractor award GAF offers: The GAF President’s Club Award. This highly coveted award recognizes Flynn Roofing as one of the “elite of the elite” residential roofing contractors in the United States.
GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, and only GAF Master Elite(R) Contractors can compete for its residential President’s Club Award. To qualify for this award, a residential roofing contractor must meet specific criteria in at least one out of three different pathways: the Performance pathway, where contractors focus on giving their property owners the best possible service, quality, and protection; the Reliability pathway, where the contractor has a long history of offering their customers the best quality and protection; and the Service pathway, where contractors consistently offer their customers the best protection available in the marketplace.

One job at a time–that’s the secret of success at Flynn Roofing, according to owner Stephen Flynn. “We don’t use subcontractors, and we don’t take half the crew to one job and send half to another job,” according to Flynn. “It’s one job at a time. We put the whole crew there, and we stay until we finish the job. Every job gets done correctly, by the same crew that we’ve had for years and years.”
The company relies mostly on word-of-mouth advertising to attract new customers. “Our reputation spreads just from being in business for years and doing quality work,” says Flynn. “For example, our customers talk about the clean-up we do at the job site–most say their yards are cleaner after we leave than when we arrived! We take everything, including the leaves. On top of that, the GAF warranties are immensely helpful. Many customers are hesitant to hire a contractor that doesn’t offer warranties.”
Flynn Roofing’s organization and staff are critical elements to the company’s success. “There’s a certain way we hire people,” explains Flynn. “We don’t hire roofers with experience. What we do is hire laborers and teach them how we want the job done, the way it should be done, the way GAF has taught us to do it. There’s only one right way, and that’s how we do things.” He continues: “The turnover rate in roofing is huge, but I have foremen and crew who have been with me for 10, 12, 15 years. With this level of training and experience, we can do good work for every customer.”
That same level of care is exhibited in the company’s work with the community. Flynn Roofing has worked with Habitat for Humanity for several years. It also contributes to fundraising efforts for local youth sports teams.
In the past year, the company has become involved in solar installations. “The biggest news for us is working with the GAF solar program,” says Flynn. “It’s an up-and-coming program, especially in Massachusetts, the busiest state in the country for solar. We’re doing the training with GAF and are very excited about being a part of the program. We’re going to stick with this for years to come.”
Going forward, the company will stay true to its winning formula for success. “We’ve never had a complaint with the Better Business Bureau,” concludes Flynn. “Our reputation is spotless, and we’ll keep it that way. People see our signs all over, they see us online, they see the reviews written by previous customers. To have a reputation like ours?–it’s huge. You couldn’t pay to get a reputation like the one we’ve earned. The customers are happy, and we want them that way–we’re not happy until they’re happy!”
