Radio was the only source of entertainment for Albert Don Henderson as a child, with the exception of his grandaddy’s stories. This book is full of short, witty stories about Oscar Henderson’s preaching days and boyhood in Mississippi.

Albert Don Henderson is pleased to announce that his book, Diary of a Backwoods Preacher: Stories My Grandaddy Told Me, has reached the Amazon #1 Best Seller List.

Henderson now lives in Spring, Texas, and is a retired high school teacher from both Sam Houston and Spring High School. His brand new book details the life of his grandad, Oscar Henderson, who was a Gospel Preacher for the Church of Christ, and is listed in Gospel Preachers Who Blazed The Trail.

Henderson went to live with his grandparents in Malakoff, Texas as an infant after his father died in a car accident. Radio was the only source of entertainment when he was a child, with the exception of his grandaddy’s stories. And Henderson tells the tales that his grandad would often tell him with animated passion.

With a lifetime of entertaining stories to tell, Oscar tried to have some of his stories published, but they were not successfully published until his grandson’s book was released. About his book, Henderson says simply, “Grandad, you are published!”

Oscar Henderson’s main source of income came from picking cotton or farming. “I personally never remember being hungry,” said Henderson, “but I did hear many stories of how, in the lean days, the Hendersons had very little in the way of food. When my Dad and his brother were small, flour and water had to suffice for supper.”

On June 25, 2015, Diary of a Backwoods Preacher: Stories My Grandaddy Told Me, reached the #1 Best Seller List and the #1 Hot New Releases List in Amazon’s Literature & Fiction category. The book was a labor of love for Henderson, who wanted to preserve and share his grandad’s stories.

“Grandaddy would always act out every detail and his tales would come alive for me,” said Henderson. Many of the stories in the book are short, witty stories about Oscar’s, preaching days and boyhood in Mississippi.
