Real Estate Investor Moneeka Sawyer interviewed Hal Elrod on her Roku TV show Real Estate Investing 4 Women. They spoke about how setting yourself up properly in the morning is key, and what you can do right now to build your best life ever.
The interview began with host Moneeka Sawyer and guest Hal Elrod discussing how we allow our feelings or emotions to prevent us from taking action, and how we often choose the path of least resistance. Hal shared: “I often say that those who only do what they feel like don’t do very much because human nature is to take the path of least resistance. That’s what we feel like 99% of the time and the most successful people in the world don’t do what they feel like. I feel it when the alarm goes off in the morning, I feel like hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep, that’s what I feel like. But that’s not in alignment with the life that I’m committed to creating. Right, and that’s the difference. The most successful people in any walk of life, real estate investing or any other, go beyond what they merely feel like doing and they do what they committed to do long before the emotion or lack thereof was present.”
When host Moneeka Sawyer asked Hal about the impact of past failures, he responded: “All of us struggle with that, right? I call it Rear View Mirror Syndrome, where your faith in what you can accomplish is rooted in your past based on what you accomplished in the past. And that’s why for most people, life just stays the same. We all want more, we want more happiness, more success, more fulfillment. We want level 10 in every area (on a scale of one to 10), we want to be the best we can be in every area. But our faith in our past keeps us reliving our past and showing up as the person that we were versus the person that we could be. And so that’s what I’m talking about where if you want to achieve extraordinary results in your life or what I call tangible, measurable miracles, you have to both establish the faith that you can do things that you’ve never done before. And in some cases, no one’s ever done them before, right? Elon Musk wasn’t born with a past of building electric cars. He had to step out on faith that he could do something he’d never done. And you have to maintain that faith for as long as it takes for you to achieve that meaningful outcome that you’ve committed to.”
Mr. Elrod then went on to share the second important decision that is part of The Miracle Equation: “Okay, so faith in yourself, you have to maintain that faith. That’s the first decision, right? The second decision is extraordinary effort. And at first mention of these two decisions, they are deceptively simple in their explanation, but they’re rare in their execution. And that’s why it’s often said success is not complicated. It’s simple, but it’s not easy. And it’s not easy because human nature is to always take the path of least resistance and do what is easy versus what takes a little effort, what’s right. So extraordinary effort. At first glance, you might think “So, wait, like work hard. Wow, thanks, how about that, I didn’t know I was supposed to work hard.” That’s revolutionary, right? No, actually don’t work hard. But it’s about consistency. That’s what makes effort extraordinary, right? So, you can really literally replace the word “extraordinary” with “consistent effort.” So, what makes it extraordinary is if you do what you need to do each and every day for as long as it takes. Think about that for a second. If you want to become wealthy, it’s actually really simple. If you want to become a wealthy real estate investor, you learn from Moneeka or any successful real estate investor, you model their process and you do their process for as long as takes. You might really want to make $1 million your first year as a real estate investor and you might only make $4,000. That doesn’t mean you failed. It means that your timeframe was off, or maybe you didn’t put in the effort you needed to. But if you continue every day to keep learning and keep executing, the only variable in your success is time.”
When host Moneeka Sawyer asked if guest Hal Elrod had any final thoughts, he ended with: “Here’s the most important lesson to wrap all that up – is that most of us live with this constant sense of I’m not where I should be, I want to be further along. Thinking success is taking too long, longer than I wanted it to. Here’s the lesson, when you finally get to the point in your life or your business that you’ve been working so hard and for so long, you almost never wish it would have happened any sooner. When you get there you go, Oh, hindsight is 20/20. Oh, I had to go through all that, I see why. I originally thought I could do it in one year, I see why it took me six. I see that I needed six years, I just didn’t know that on day one. So, the lesson that you now implement is, okay, so I’m going to stop feeling this sense of scarcity, that I’m not where I want to be. I’m not who I need to be. I’m not. And instead, be completely at peace with where you are in your life in this moment and in every moment while you maintain a healthy sense of urgency to do that one thing every day that will make your success and the achievement of all of your goals inevitable. It’s only a matter of time.”
