Mortgage prequalification is the 1st step of the home-buying process. By getting prequalified, buyers know exactly how much mortgage they can afford and whether they’re able to get a mortgage at all. The mortgage prequalification process is pretty simple and can be done quickly with the help of an online mortgage calculator.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Buyers must know their credit score and credit history. Before thinking about applying for a mortgage, buyers must have a clear understanding of their credit score and credit history. A credit score is a number that represents creditworthiness and is used by lenders to determine whether or not the borrower is a good candidate for a loan. The higher the credit score, the better the chances of getting approved for a mortgage.
  1. Know monthly income and expenses. Another important factor that lenders will consider when determining whether or not to approve a mortgage is the monthly income and expenses. Be sure to clearly understand both before beginning the mortgage prequalification process.
  1. Use an online mortgage calculator. Once buyers clearly understand their credit score, credit history, and monthly income and expenses, they’re ready to begin using an online mortgage calculator. This tool will help them determine how much mortgage they can afford based on these factors.
  1. Get prequalified by a lender. After using an online mortgage calculator to determine how much mortgage buyers can afford, it’s time to get prequalified by a lender. This simply means that they provide the lender with some basic information about their financial situation and estimate how much mortgage they’re willing to provide.

By following these simple steps, buyers can easily qualify for a mortgage and get one step closer to owning their dream home.
