Emily Garvey, Nominated For Cayman Islands Chamber Of Commerce’s ‘Primary School Teacher (Private School)’ Award

Emily Garvey has been nominated for Excellence in Teaching in the ‘Primary School Teacher (Private School)’ category, to be presented by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce on May 26th, during the 2018 Golden Apple Awards.

Nominations for the prestigious Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching were recently announced and Emily Garvey was nominated in the ‘Primary School Teacher (Private School)’ category.

According to the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, nominees are selected based on being full-time Teachers or Principals currently working in a public, private primary or high school.

Past recipients were not eligible for previously won categories but were eligible for a new category.

All members of the public in Grand Cayman, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac were invited to make nominations, including students, parents, colleagues, and members of the public who were encouraged to nominate educators, including past teachers from the 2017-2018 school year. The nomination process closed March 23, 2018. 

When asked what the nomination means, Emily Garvey said, “It’s an incredible honor for me. To be recognized by The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce for Excellence in Teaching is really a testament to my school, St. Ignatius, as well as my students and their parents. The truth is, my success depends on the success of my students, their happiness, their love of learning and their resilience, I share this honor with each and every one of them”.

Emily Garvey has spent 13 years as an international educator. Her personal mission is to empower students to be resilient, confident and empathetic individuals who have the power to overcome obstacles and share their unique talents to better our world.

Presented by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce, this prestigious award recognizes that being an educator encompasses more than simply teaching the A,B,C’s and 1,2 3’s. It requires patience, perseverance, kindness, empathy and a genuine desire to mold the island’s future generation and is proud to be able to applaud these worthy individuals.

Honorees will be announced during the Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching to be held at Ritz Carlton, Grand Cayman on Saturday, May 26, 2018
