Because of her uplifting life and career, Janet is a proud recipient of the Latina Women Who Make a Difference Award.
Janet Perez Eckles started JC Empowerment Ministries to bring hope to the hopeless. JC Empowerment Ministries is dedicated to touching people’s lives with the light of Christ. They do this in various ways, all of which strive to spread love to people in desperate, seemingly helpless situations.
Janet explains that her determination and drive to inspire others really began when she went blind. She says, “Situations didn’t change. Circumstances didn’t change. I was still a mom. I still had to get things done. I could, of course, sit back and say, ‘But I can’t see. How am I going to do this?'” But she didn’t. She used her barrier as an opportunity for greatness. She likens this to a professional setting, saying, “People who are trying to perform in a company or the workplace can say to themselves, ‘Well, I don’t have what it takes. I can’t do it.’ or ‘I have this problem or this obstacle.’ But you have the ability to look beyond the circumstance, beyond the obstacles and say, ‘Wow, I think I can use my creativity, my determination, my tenacity to be able to get it done.’ And what I do with my audience and what I teach in my book as well is to teach them — how do you face a circumstance? Overcome the fear.”
