Medical Skills for Life Institute to Cut Ribbon on New Location in Reno

Published on February 14, 2022

Medical Skills for Life Institute will open a second location in Arlington Towers, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony February 17 at 1pm. The school will offer vocational programs in phlebotomy and lab assistance.

Founded in 2005 by Val Nesmith of Las Vegas, Medical Skills for Life Institute will begin offering a 13-week course in phlebotomy and laboratory assistance with an optional 12 Lead EKG course in Arlington Towers at 100 N Arlington Ave. Suite #200 Reno, NV 89501. Students will gain valuable skills through classroom instruction and hands-on training in verified venipuncture techniques. They will be equipped to perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests. Courses in medical billing and coding will also be on offer.

After completing a rigorous skills check-off system and a 120-hour externship, graduates will sit for national certifications offered by American Society for Clinical Pathology, National Center for Competency Testing, and National HealthCareer Association. Upon entering the workforce, these newly certified professionals can look forward to steady office hours in clinical laboratories where their annual salaries will start at $26,000 per year.

Medical Skills for Life Institute is positioned to fill a growing need for certified phlebotomists in Nevada, as facilities are increasingly requiring pre-certification prior to hire.

With class sizes limited to ten students, these training centers in Las Vegas and now in Reno offers a custom curriculum that is uniquely focused on real-world issues and tailored to the needs of the wider community, equipping students with a clear sense of themselves as talented and motivated contributors to society. Daytime, afternoon, and evening courses will be available to students who have earned either a high school diploma or GED. Monolingual students who have not studied Spanish prior to enrolment will graduate with effective English-to-Spanish communication skills which cover basic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

In addition to the Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant program with the 12 Lead EKG option, the Las Vegas location also offers programs for aspiring EKG Monitor Technicians and Medical Assistants.
