New Training Site Helps Contractors Become Lead Paint Certified

BWI Lead Safety Institute announces a new website that makes it easy for contractors to find and register for lead paint classes in Maryland.

Annapolis, MD – BWI Lead Safety Institute announced a new website that will help remodeling contractors to easily find, register for and take lead paint certification classes to meet the EPA’s Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule in the central Maryland region. The website provides a listing of available lead paint classes in the current classroom located in Glen Burnie, Maryland and will soon include RRP lead paint training classes for the Annapolis, Maryland classroom as well as online training options for re-certification or what the EPA refers to as the Refresher Course. Contractors and individuals can easily select a class date that works with their schedule and register online with a few simple clicks.

“The new site is fresh, uncluttered and delivers the information busy contractors need, straight-away so they can be compliant with the law enacted in 2010,” remarked Bruce Shields, EPA certified instructor. He goes on further explaining, “Contractors and even landlords are required to follow these procedures while making even small repairs in a home or daycare facility; not doing so can result in hefty fines. We’re talking $37,500 per day, per occurrence. It’s critical that companies, no matter how small get certified; not being certified and following proper procedure is not only dangerous for their clients but, if fined, could put them out of business.”

As of April 22, 2010, anyone who performs renovations, repairs, or painting in pre-1978 housing or child-occupied facilities must be Lead-Safe Certified by the EPA or an EPA-Authorized state.  BWI Lead Safety Institute delivers regular classes for contractors needing the Initial RRP course and an online course for those needing a Refresher Course.

The initial RRP course is valid for five years. At the end of five years, it must be renewed with a Refresher Course which can be done online or in a classroom setting. If done online, the refresher is good for 3 years and if done in a classroom setting it will be valid for five years. Contractors and landlords can only renew with a refresher course every other renewal period.
