Senate Candidate Chuck Boyce Calls for Support of Veterans Act

Published on May 17, 2017

Republican Senate candidate Chuck Boyce today announced his support of S. 1094 which was introduced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) last week. This bill, titled the VA Accountability and Whistleblowers Protection Act, will allow VA administrators who are underperforming their duty to provide the best care for our veterans to be held liable.

With the recent unraveling of scandals at numerous VA Hospitals including high wait times and inadequate care, all employees and staff of the VA must be held responsible for their actions. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Dr. David Shulkin, who is supportive of the bill, would be given authority to assess all VA employees and determine those deserving to continue their work at the VA.

“I commend the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs for continuing their broad support for S. 1094. This bill is a piece of bipartisan legislation that will ensure unfit employees at the VA are terminated in addition to due process protections for whistleblowers,” Boyce said. “It’s reassuring to see that this bill also has extensive support from numerous veterans groups that represent millions of valiant veterans in Delaware and across the country.”

“Service members and their families deserve to have an ally in DC with their best interest in mind. It’s time to put aside party politics and focus on these types of common ground solutions.”

Boyce formally announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate last Thursday. While discussing his reasons for running, he touched on the bureaucracy preventing veterans from receiving care they deserve and noted that not every veteran has a support system in place to advocate for their physical and mental health needs.
