On a recent episode of Influencers Radio with Jack Mize, Loie Watkins, owner of Optimal CFO, discussed how she is helping private schools to balance the books and stay on top of their unique financial concerns.
There are so many private schools that are GREAT at what they do when it comes to serving their students and community. However, the special financial concerns for many of these organizations such as financial aid, tuition costs, and preparing and managing school budgets often get neglected with the traditional basic bookkeeping model. Without having an in-depth analysis of the school’s unique finances, quality institutions can face some devastating financial surprises.
That’s why the heads of many private schools are turning to Loie Watkins to set up and manage their accounting systems, allowing them to focus on all the other areas of responsibility in their leadership roles.
As a virtual CFO and accountant, Loie works with private schools to initially set up their online accounting platform or customize the system they may already have in place for their specific financial needs. Through remote access into the accounting records, Loie is able to manage the books as well as analyze and produce financial reports. She reviews the reports at least monthly with school leadership, allowing her to share strategies and provide guidance and recommendations based on the unique goals and mission of the private school.
During the interview, Loie shares what fueled her passion to specialize and work with private schools, saying, “I discovered along my journey that I am most passionate about working with nonprofits. I really feel like I can contribute to and support a cause. And in this case, the cause being education. And education means so much in so many capacities. When you think about a child’s future being developed and formed, it’s just so inspiring how they are given the capability to be whatever they want to be or aspire to be in regards to a career path. Education is the foundation for that. And so, along my journey, with working with nonprofits, and then specifically, as a former finance director in a private school, that really helped me to connect with my passion in serving private schools.”
Listening to this episode, it’s easy to hear how passionate Loie is about applying her 21 years of expertise in the accounting and finance field to helping private schools manage their accounting and financial operations so they thrive, prosper, and fully carry out their missions.
