Author and Entrepreneur David Birchall’s recent release, St Anne’s Haverthwaite 1825-1951 Volume One, hit Amazon.com’s best seller lists on 24th April 2019 climbing all the way to #1 in Hot New Releases, Study and Teaching History.
The book shows between its Consecration in 1825 to 1951, where Volume 1 finishes, how a Rural Parish Church and the Residents of that parish can work together to deliver a place worth living in and to call Home. David is a Churchwarden at St Anne’s Parish Church and lives in the parish which is now a quiet place, but was once a hive of ‘state of the art’ industry in the manufacture of Iron and later steel. It shows how working together the church and residents can make a big difference to our lives and to those who follow us, whether we believe in a God or none at all.
In response to the book hitting Number 1 and 2 Birchall stated, “In some ways I was surprised we did so well in the rankings on its launch, as we had some very stiff competition with well established titles and authors already strongly listed in our subject matter.”
With the recent the news on how the Church of England is loosing congregations it helps to take a step back in time and to see how the church and community interacted and collaborated, particularly during the First and Second World Wars, to make lives better ,and to care for our neighbours. We see today in the media, on TV, in the News Headlines how communities have become fractured and perhaps looking back at our history in St Anne’s Haverthwaite 1825-1951 Vol 1; might light a spark on the hot topic of community cohesion providing a must read for publication for Social Historians, Rural Communities, Parish Churches and Residents.
