Uulala, a blockchain powered fintech company that facilitates and accelerates the financial inclusion of the under-banked and unbanked populations, welcomes Jorge Leyva the former Consul For Political & Economic Affairs at the Consulate of Mexico in San Bernardino, California to the team. Mr. Leyva will be responsible for expanding Uulala’s vision of empowering the underbanked through business development in Mexico.
During his 6 years with the Consulate of Mexico, Mr. Leyva was responsible for promoting business and trade between Mexico and the Inland Empire and overseeing the official relations with higher learning institutions, faith-based organizations, elected officials and pro-migrant organizations.
With a Master’s Degree in Competency-Based Education from the Universidad del Valle de México and a Bachelor of Public Administration and Political Science, Mr. Leyva brings his passion for community development, binational business promotion, and education to every aspect of his career and it has not gone unnoticed. He received the National Award for Local Government Development from Mexico´s Ministry of the Interior during his tenure at Mexicali´s City government and was elected as the Deputy Congressman of Baja California from 2001-2004.
“I am very excited to join the great team of Uulala, an organization with which I share its fundamental values. I´ve had the opportunity to collaborate in projects and programs that have had a positive and immediate impact on the lives of families and community at large in Mexico and the United States and it is very satisfactory. Having the opportunity to do it today in favor of a vulnerable and at-risk population due to their migratory and or socioeconomic status is a greater challenge and will be even more rewarding.”
“Jorge is a phenomenal find for Uulala. Not only does he bring in some great experience from working directly with the Mexican government, but he also brings real-life business experience. He knows what businesses need to get into other countries and what they need in order to do business in those countries both legally and with other providers. He has already proven himself to be one of our best assets and we are looking forward to seeing him expand Uulala all over Mexico.” Oscar Garcia, CEO Uulala said.
As the team at Uulala move forward in their platform rollout across Mexico and then in the US Mr. Leyva’s experience, connections, and diplomatic prowess will be a highly valuable asset to the organization that will bring continued growth. His passion for social development and education, as well as his experience in cross-border business acceleration, will help drive the organization’s vision, to use financial technology to positively impact the lives of millions of low-income, unbanked, migrants and refugees, across Mexico and the United States.
