Attic Ventilation Contractor, Pflugerville Roofer Aurum Roofing Forecasting Record High Summer Electricity Demand

Published on June 6, 2018

Aurum Roofing owner, Jose Valdez, predicts higher than normal utility bills for Central Texas homeowners due to May's record-breaking electrical demand due to heat.

While summer doesn’t officially start until June 21st, Jose Valdez, owner of Aurum Roofing, consistently reviewed as one of the best roofers in Pflugerville TX, is predicting a summer of high utility bills in Central Texas after seeing the number of records broken by the electrical demand on the Texas power grid in the month of May.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCT), which manages the power grid for most of Texas, is preparing Central Texas for massive drag on the grid this summer after seeing high demand much earlier than usual.

According to the ERCT spokesperson, Leslie Sopko,“We set multiple records in May. On Tuesday, between 4 and 5 p.m., we exceeded 67,000 megawatts. We’ve never seen anything close to that number in the month of May. We’re coming close to an all-time high. Back in August 2016, we experienced demand for 71,110 megawatts. But, remember, that was in August. The gap is closing. Usage we’re seeing now is a month ahead of what we would typically anticipate.”

During the summer, excess heat that builds up in the attic during the day results in high energy costs for cooling. Attics can reach temperatures of 150 to 160 degrees F during a summer day, although outside air temperatures are only 95 to 97 degrees F.

TXU Energy provides suggestions on how homeowners could conserve energy and save money on their utility bills. Replacing filters on HVAC units, having the units checked out are two of the more accessible options.

Proper attic ventilation is another great energy-saving strategy according to Valdez, who commands a busy crew of Pflugerville roofers.

“Our extreme summer temperatures can cause a house to expend unnecessary energy battling the temperatures and inserting strain on the central air conditioning system. This is why Aurum offers attic ventilation services which will help cool down the attic keeping a home cooler and using fewer energy resources and easing the strain on an HVAC system. By adding a vent, such as ridge vents, wind turbines, solar vents, or electric power vents, homeowners can reduce their electricity costs and cool attic temperature by approximately 10-20 degrees,” said Valdez.

Attic ventilation is a series of vents within your roofing system that increases airflow within your attic. New homes today typically are built with the proper number of vents to accommodate the size of the home, and the size of the roof, but older homes may require additional vents.

Aurum Roofing has been featured nationally for their roof tune-up service for Pflugerville and surrounding areas.

Homeowners in the Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Austin area can qualify for an assessment performed by Aurum Roofing to determine if additional solutions are appropriate.
