Dr. Hayes worked, post-graduation, as a general dentist at Lackland Air Force base in Texas. After realizing he was interested in pursuing an oral surgery specialization, he moved on to study the specialty at Wilford Hall Medical Center and became the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at a base in Ramstein, Germany, offering exceptional care to wounded soldiers coming out of the Middle East. He was eventually named the U.S. Air Force Dentist of the Year in 2013.
