“#REALTalkRacism” Series Launches First Book for Mothers Raising Black Sons

Lisa Williams of Augmented Publishing is set to publish the first book in her “#REALTalkRacism” series. The book is called “What’s Going On, Hear Our Hearts Cry: Inspiration, Stories, and Strategies for Mothers Raising Black Sons.”

Lisa Williams, President of Augmented Publishing Group, is set to publish the first book in her #REALTalkRacism series. She envisions the series as a “Chicken Soup For The Soul” type guide for dealing with the scourge of racism in America. The first book, “#REALTalkRacism: What’s Going On, Hear Our Hearts Cry: Inspiration, Stories, and Strategies for Mothers Raising Black Sons,” will offer advice and solutions to mothers coping with the stresses of raising black sons in a racist society.

As more and more black men are killed by law enforcement across the country, “#REALTalkRacism: What’s Going On, Hear Our Hearts Cry: Inspiration, Stories, and Strategies for Mothers Raising Black Sons” can’t come soon enough for mothers struggling to cope with the fear and stress of raising young black men in today’s society.

In addition to announcing the upcoming book, Williams is also calling upon organizations and individuals who serve black mothers to come forward and help by pre-selling copies of the book. Williams and her partner, Tamika Bridgewater, will also be hosting a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the publication of all books in the “#REALTalkRacism” series. All retail royalties generated from the sale of these books will go to a charity that either supports the African-American community or focuses on the eradication of racism.

As the mother of a young black male herself, Williams is determined to use her position as a publisher and media expert to reach out to the African-American community, specifically black mothers, to make a difference. “My goal with this book,” she says, “is to get relevant information into the hands of mothers with black sons around the country, to give them encouragement and provide strategies in the midst of this difficult time in our community.”

To help attain this goal, she is reaching out to organizations and community leaders to create a coalition of influencers who can help bring awareness of this book to the black mothers they know and serve. Williams will donate a portion of the proceeds back to non-profit partners, in exchange for their help in promoting the book to their members and encouraging them to pre-purchase a copy of their own. “It’s a win/win for everyone,” Williams says.

Williams is also seeking black professionals and community leaders from all industries to contribute content to the book, spanning from doctors, lawyers, educators, and mental health professionals, to financial experts, race relations experts, and community leaders. Each book in the series will feature expertise from professionals from all walks of life.

Williams and Bridgewater both feel it is time to take steps to affect real change. Williams states, “Our intent is to shift the pendulum from unrest, anger, and pointing fingers, to setting actionable steps into place that will affect positive changes in our community.”
