Together Susan Lerner and Nancy Meyer, who are two sisters in their ‘70’s, wrote the romance novel September Somewhere, and have recently celebrated the publishing of their book on Amazon. A portion of all books sales proceeds is being donated to the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at John Hopkins.
They started September Somewhere two years ago, after an evening discussing various life events they both have experienced. It was then they had the idea to write a romance novel together, not really believing that it would ever be published.
While writing this book was a fun project for the sisters to tackle together, it soon became more than that. Growing up they were influenced by their dad who encouraged them to read every day, even if it was the funnies. “Just read!” he would say “and pass the love of books onto your children”. They dedicated this book to their mother and father, and then a larger purpose hit them. There had to be more than just getting a novel published… So the idea of having a defined purpose for the book took over.
At the recommendation of their publishing Fairy Godmother, and publisher, Debbie Horovitch of Social Sparkle & Shine, Lerner and Meyer considered the charity organizations they’re involved with and supporting. Since their dad passed away from ALS over 22 years ago, they have followed the developments in ALS research. It has been slow, but now giving part of the proceeds from book sales to the Packard Center at Johns Hopkins became the driving force behind finishing and publishing the book. As they go out and talk about their process in writing this romance novel, it also gives them a platform to talk about ALS research and the need for more funding. Thus the title of “2 Grandmas with a Purpose”.
Lerner and Meyer both share their time and energy with hospital boards and arts organizations in Southern California, and they are looking to expand their work to include organizations around North America.
Print and ebook formats are available currently exclusively on Amazon, hardcover format is forthcoming, and the sisters are considering creating an audiobook format of their novel, while they outline stories for their next book.
About September Somewhere:
Charlotte, Ryan and Mariella…three friends, from unique backgrounds, bonded at the most elite law school in America. On the eve of graduation they make a vow to once a year reunite for cocktails, catching up and whatever else the weekend brings. They will meet September, Somewhere. From New York to San Francisco, Paris to The Hamptons, these ambitious young lawyers will see their promised reunions drift from casual, nostalgic gatherings to something far more complex, as ego, greed and a secret lust threaten to fracture their bond. And then there’s Bermuda, and that night on the beach that cannot be undone. Inspired by true events, September, Somewhere is a peek behind the curtain at the world of young, top dollar lawyers, a place of status, suspect morals and infinite temptation. Charlotte, Ryan and Mariella will each pick a different path through this complicated world, but once a year those paths intersect. And that’s when things get interesting.
About the Authors:
September, Somewhere is a work of fiction, however, the locations, characters, and experiences contained in this story are each influenced by actual events. Susan Lerner and Nancy Meyer are sisters and best friends. Now in their 70’s, they felt that it was time to tell a story that mixes some romance and creativity with their diverse, real life experiences. This story pulls from the authors’ combined years of world travel, community service, heartbreak, and happiness. They are most thankful for their special bond, which has only deepened while working on this story together. Lerner and Meyer reside in southern California.
