Brian Lomax, Performance Coach and Founder of PerformanceXtra, was the featured guest on Business Innovators Radio show discussing how he helps athletes and teams reach their peak potential with a proven system that methodically teaches athletes how to retrain their minds to think and react in an optimal way to enhance performance and overcome self-limiting beliefs and fears.

On a recent episode of Business Innovators Radio with host Alicia Dibrell, Brian Lomax shared his insights on developing “mental toughness”, and how his training methods translate into more consistency, a higher level of awareness, and more self-control, both in competition and in life overall. He goes into great detail on all aspects of both individual mental fitness and team building strategies.

During the interview, Lomax stated “It’s probably your brain that’s getting in the way of your best performances. Your body likely knows how to do what it’s supposed to do. It’s our thoughts that are acting like a barrier toward that. So if you begin to understand more about how your brain works, begin to cultivate the ability to be more present, over time that can help you begin to get your brain out of the way and let your body do what it already knows how to do”.

Lomax outlines the 5 components of what he calls the “Mind Gym”: meditation, visualization, training journals, studying the sport, and developing habits. He explains the importance of each, and how over time these can become instilled into the player’s performance.  According to Lomax, “ Meditation is an excellent way of building self-awareness.”

Lomax also discusses his approach to working with teams, how he engages the coaching staff, and how to increase team cohesiveness. Lomax says, “When working with teams I want to do more group exercises, be more engaging for the team and get them talking with each other so that they’re not only developing their competitive skills but we can use this type of activity to build more team chemistry and team cohesion.”
