On a recent episode of Your Partner in Success Radio with Denise Griffitts, Donna Gunter, Profit Advisor for Radio Show and Podcast Guests, discussed Profiting as a Podcast Guest: 5 Secrets to Leverage Your Interview into a Profit-Generating Machine.
To set the stage for the interview, Gunter began, “To grow your business, you need more clients and customers. Not just any clients and customers, but targeted prospects who will become paying clients. Where are these prospects? Chances are they are listening to very specific podcasts.”
When host Denise Griffitts asked why podcasts are so popular now, Gunter answered, “With over 46 million people listening to podcasts, it is a powerful way to get heard by thousands of your ideal clients. Fifty percent of the new cars are going to have Internet connectivity and the ability to download podcasts. Your perfect prospects are already listening to podcasts. If you’re not currently being interviewed on podcasts, you’re missing out on some serious revenue generation.”
During the interview, Gunter shared that podcasts aren’t for everyone, explaining, “The only business owners for whom this strategy is not going to work are those people who are looking for an immediate sale. Why? Podcasts are evergreen. As a podcast guest, you don’t want to promote something with a time limit on it, such as a one-time live webinar or a holiday-themed sale. You never know when somebody is going to listen to a podcast. They may listen to it right away when it’s released, or may listen to it in 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or even 3 years down the road. That’s why your offer needs to be evergreen – to be able to serve the listener regardless of when the listener tunes into the episode.”
When asked by Griffitts about how guests can up-level or amplify their interview, Gunter gave a quick overview, “Repurposing the interview is key. Guests can transcribe the interview to blog posts or social media updates. Or, the guest can create a media release about the interview and have it appear on affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. and then use that release as part of a ‘shock and awe’ box to send out to prospects.”
