On a recent episode of Business Innovators Radio with Stewart Andrew Alexander, Kimberly A. Ferguson, Author of Marketing You: Be STRATEGIC, discussed Real-Life Strategies for Managing Your Career.
According to Ferguson, “Whether unemployed, under-employed, under-skilled, looking to change careers, or simply in search for a better opportunity, it may be time for you to consider a new approach to managing your career.”
Ferguson, said “Many of you will say “I’ve tried everything.” From career counsellors, self-help books and life coaches, to resume writing services, informational interviews and networking events. While I certainly agree that all of the above can be valuable resources, I have learned through first-hand observation and personal experience that the true key to career success is a God-centered approach to career management”.
Host Stewart Andrew Alexander referred to an article by Berkeley University of California stating, “Successful career management is accomplished through regular habits of building relationships, and engaging in career development conversations,”(1) Ferguson answered, “Career management is a continuous, ongoing process.”
“We need to be evaluating and re-evaluating on a regular basis. I often talk about self-assessment and taking the time to assess where I am, where I would like to be and what lies in the gap. That allows me to identify my goals, see where I am in my career, and if I’m not where I’d like to be, taking the time to figure out what’s missing and what’s needed to get to that place.”
During the Interview Ferguson shared how people who are unemployed, under-skilled, or looking to change careers need to establish a plan, explaining, “It goes back to what I said before about self-assessment, we not only have to take a look at the things we do absolutely well, but also be honest enough to take a look at our weaknesses and the things about us that get in the way of our own success.”
Kimberly A. Ferguson, host of StrategicMinds.tv and owner of K-Ferg Training is passionate about helping others to grow and develop professionally, which reflects in her book, Marketing You: Be STRATEGIC.
The interview concluded with Ferguson saying “Keeping God at the centre of your business is important, but equally important is understanding that there’s action and strategy that needs to be taken.”
