Rob Fagen, “My other nugget of wisdom to offer those who are struggling with any number of personal issues would be to tell them this, “First and foremost, don’t panic. Give yourself a break”. We’re usually hardest on ourselves, so just give yourself a break. If I were to offer another person who is experiencing difficulties some advice, I would tell them not to panic, because I have found that life’s going to beat you down, life’s going to throw you curve balls, and sometimes life’s going to give you a shot in the stomach. I have found that life will create difficulties for everyone, and we all have different levels of struggles. I would also like to remind people to just embrace life knowing that because you are feeling these difficult things, and because you’re going through these difficulties, having these struggles means that you’re living. Even if you’re struggling, a life spent struggling is better than not having a life at all. I would say to people, if you’re alive; enjoy this life, and try to be very patient with yourself. That’s my message.

We tend to want to live in this world and have everything, and we seem to want to have everything right now. We often think to ourselves, “I want to get well right now. I want to be the way I used to be right now. I want my life to be the way it used to be right now”. I would counter those lines of thinking I just described by telling people to just be patient. I have found that it is important for everyone to learn to be a very patient person, and be very thankful for what they do have. I am thankful because even for a person like myself, who has lost his career, and so many other things, there are still people in this world who are a lot worse off than me. So, I would remind people to always be thankful for what they have.”

Rob states, “I’m not special in any way; however, the thing that I believe I bring to an audience is a sense of perspective. When I am giving a public speech, I think I bring some insights on how to fight, on how to be mentally strong, and how to appreciate life. I believe that I can offer insights about how to more fully appreciate life because I was given a second and third chance to live. To look internally at your life’s purpose is to have an honest conversation with yourself and ask yourself this question, “What am I doing?” Having an honest conversation with yourself also involves being able to ask yourself at the end of your life, What did I do? I mean, how did I live my life?”
